• Professor Massoud Amin (M.Sc. SSM, 1986, D.Sc. SSM, 1990; advisor: Professor Ervin Y. Rodin), now Director of the Center for the Development of Technological Leadership, University of Minnesota, gives keynote kickoff at the annual MIT Energy Conference, and also Congressional Staffer Briefing on "Towards a Stronger and Smarter Grid."  

• Mr. T. Alan Hurwitz (B.Sc. EE 1965) is appointed President of Gallaudet University.

• Professor Marija Ilic (M.Sc. SSM, 1978, D.Sc. SSM, 1980; advisor: Professor John Zaborsky), now with Carnegie Mellon University, is featured in Science article entitled "Students Energized by Power Engineering."

• Professor Sarang Joshi (BSEE 1990, M.Sc. EE, 1993, D.Sc. 1998; adivsor: Professor Michael I. Miller), is now with the University of Utah.
  
  
• Professor Gerald R. Kane (BSEE 1968), now with the University of Tulsa, is President of the Board of Directors, Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association (ECEDHA), for 2008/2009.

• Professor Aaron D. Lanterman (M.Sc. EE 1995, D.Sc. EE. 1998; advisors: Professors Michael Miller and Donald L. Snyder), now with Georgia Institute of Technology, is appointed one of seven 2009 Hesburgh Award Teaching Fellows.
  
  
• Professor Chunli Liu (D.Sc. EE, 2002; Advisor: Professor Barbara A. Shrauner) is appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Korea.
  

• Professor Chrysanthe Preza (B.Sc. EE & B.Sc. CS 1987, M.Sc. EE 1990, M.Sc. CS 1991, D.Sc. EE 1998; advisors: Professors Michael I. Miller and Donald L. Snyder), now with the University of Memphis, receives an NSF CAREER award.

• Professor Badri Roysam (D.Sc. EE, 1989; advisor: Professor Michael I. Miller), is now with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

• Professor Mark Spong (D.Sc. SSM, 1981; advisor: Professor T.J. Tarn), now Dean of Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas, becomes the Lars Magnus Ericsson Chair in Electrical Engineering and the Excellence in Education Chair in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science.

• Professor Renjeng Su (D.Sc. SSM, 1980; advisor: Professor T.J. Tarn), becomes Dean of the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University. 

• Professor Tun Zainal Azni Zulkifli (D.Sc. EE, 2002; Advisor: Professor Daniel L. Rode), is currently Senior Lecturer with the RMIC Group at Universiti Sains Malaysia.

• Professor Dirk Aeyels, now with Ghent University, Professor Nicholas Kalouptsidis, now with  University of Athens, Professor Riccardo Marino, now with University of Rome "Tor Vergata" and the late Professor W. P. Dayawansa, who was with Texas Tech University are among the well known alums who received the D.Sc. in SSM under the advising of Professor David L. Elliot.

• Dr. Lawrence S. Goldberg (BS Engineering Physics, 1961), is now Senior Engineering Advisor, NSF Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems Division.

• Dr. Dev J. Banerjee (M.Sc. SSM 1974, D.Sc. ME 1977), now Director of Systems Engineering for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems IDS, receives an Alumni Achievement Award. More  

• Mr. Steven Broadstone (BSEE 1984, MSEE 1986, D.Sc. EE, 1988; advisor: Dr. R. Martin Arthur), is Vice President, Research and Development, at Teratech Corporation.
  

• Dr. Larry Chiang (M.Sc. SSM, 1973, D.Sc. SSM, 1975) was President of Siemens Telecommunciations Systems Limited, Taiwan, from 1995 to 2005. His daughter, Joy Chiang, is pursuring double degrees in EE and BME at Washington University. More 

• Dr. Keh-Ping Dunn (M.Sc. SSM, 1972, D.Sc. SSM, 1974; advisor: Dr. Ian Rhodes), becomes Group Leader of Missile Defense Elements at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

• Dr. Ronald Esman (M.Sc. EE, 1983 , D.Sc. ,1986; advisor: Professor Daniel Rode) serves as a Program Manager at the DARPA Microsystems Technology Office(MTO) since 2007.
  
  
• Mr. Matt Ettus (BS EE and CS, 1996), founder of Ettus Research LLC, is a major contributor to the GNU Radio project. Ettus is the creator of the Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP), high-speed USB-based board for making software radios. Ettus Research serves clients in Wireless Communications, DSP, and Software Radio design. More

• Mr. Zachary Lemnios (M.Sc. EE, 1979), is appointed Director of Defense Research and Engineering of the US Department of Defense (DOD), 2009. More

• Dr. Richard K. Moore (BSEE, 1943) comments on the EE Class of 1943.

• Dr. Daniel A. O'Connor (D.Sc. SSM, 1978; advisor: Professor T.J. Tarn), becomes Group Leader of Advanced Concept and Technology at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.
  

• Ms. Anna Patterson (BSEE, BSCS, 1987), who launched and leads Cuil, receives an Alumni Achievement Award. More

• Mr. Bernard Sander (D.Sc. EE 1972; Advisor: Professor W.S.C. Chang), formerly with Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories, serves as Chair of the IEEE Section in Chicago from 2008 to 2009.

• Dr. John Sommerer (BS SSM, M.Sc. SSM, 1979) recently led a Naval Research Advisory Council study for the Secretary of the Navy and the Commander, US Pacific Fleet, on technical enablers to establish an Undersea Maritime Domain Awareness capability. The NRAC is the senior scientific advisory group to the Secretary, the Chief of Naval Operations, and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Sommerer, the Director of Science and Technology for Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, recently completed a two-year term as Vice Chair of the NRAC.
