Tarn), now Dean of Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas, becomes the Lars Magnus Ericsson Chair in Electrical Engineering and the Excellence in Education Chair in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science.

  • Mr. Matt Ettus (BS EE and CS, 1996), founder of Ettus Research LLC, is a major contributor to the GNU Radio project. Ettus is the creator of the Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP), high-speed USB-based board for making software radios. Ettus Research serves clients in Wireless Communications, DSP, and Software Radio design. More

  

  • Mr. Zachary Lemnios (M.Sc. EE, 1979), is appointed Director of Defense Research and Engineering of the US Department of Defense (DOD), 2009. More

 

 

  • Dr. Daniel A. O'Connor (D.Sc. SSM, 1978; advisor: Professor T.J. Tarn), becomes Group Leader of Advanced Concept and Technology at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

 

 


  • Mr. Bernard Sander (D.Sc. EE 1972; Advisor: Professor W.S.C. Chang), formerly with Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories, serves as Chair of the IEEE Section in Chicago from 2008 to 2009.

  • Dr. John Sommerer (BS SSM, M.Sc. SSM, 1979) recently led a Naval Research Advisory Council study for the Secretary of the Navy and the Commander, US Pacific Fleet, on technical enablers to establish an Undersea Maritime Domain Awareness capability. The NRAC is the senior scientific advisory group to the Secretary, the Chief of Naval Operations, and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Sommerer, the Director of Science and Technology for Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, recently completed a two-year term as Vice Chair of the NRAC.

  • Dr. John Sommerer (BS SSM, M.Sc. SSM, 1979), Director of Science & Technology and Chief Technology Officer of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, becomes Head of APL's Space Department, which is responsible for executing several exciting NASA missions including, New
    Horizons and Messenger.
